Career and Technical Education

Our school is well known and proud of its technology programs. Technology plays an integral role in supporting curriculum and instruction at GSMST. In our 1:1 student laptop environment, students have instant access to eClass (Gwinnett County’s online learning platform), the Online Research Library, and industry standard software from Microsoft, Adobe, Autodesk, and more.

COVID-19 Adjustments

Fascopy

GSMST staff and teacher have provided many resources for students during this pandemic. Students have the option of coming in person with social distancing and mask-wearing or to be able to work digitally. Zoom, Google Classroom, and My eCLASS has helped students communicate with their teachers and learn in this difficult environment. Teachers provide guidance to students who are having difficulty learning online.

GSMST students were able to bring non-perishable items to the school in exchange for service hours. All the food donated was distributed to Gwinnett communities affected by the pandemic.

Courses

PhysEng

All freshmen students at GSMST are required to complete the following courses: Gifted Physics, Engineering Concepts, and Foundation of Engineering/Technology. Students are given first-hand experience with the engineering design process and hands-on construction alongside state-of-the-art workshops for each classroom with the use of CAD software.

Engineering Applications

Engineering Applications is a continuation of the engineering pathway(started in freshman year)to sophomore year. Students learn engineering principles such as Truss Analysis,Students design, construct and test their own CO2 car, Truss Bridge and Model Rocket. Also, students apply engineering management concepts to help aid their building process.

Science & Engineering Fair

All sophomore students at GSMST are required to complete a full project for the Intel Science and Engineering Fair as part of the advanced STEM curriculum. In the traditional Science Fair, students examine a particular topic, perform experiments and draw conclusions based on their data.
